What is Head Start?Head Start is a free early childhood program for children between 3 and 5 years of age. Children with special needs are welcome. Head Start helps children stay healthy and become ready for school. Am I eligible?The Worcester Head Start program is for children between 3 and 5 years of age who live in Worcester. To qualify, families must meet income limits or receive TAFDC or SSI. Immigration status does not matter for this program. What benefits will I get?You and your child can get many different services to help your child's social, physical, and educational development. Your child can attend full or half-day preschool, depending on your need. You can also get health screenings, nutrition counseling, and safety education. Head Start staff members try to help your family in any way they can. How do I apply?To apply for Head Start, you should call the Worcester Head Start Administrative Office at 508-799-3608 or 508-799-3225 to set up a home visit. The Worcester Head Start Program is run by the Worcester Public School Department. The Worcester Head Start Program web page includes a listing of Worcester Head Start locations. During the home visit, you will need to fill out an application and show your child's birth certificate and immunization record, and proof of household income.
