What is the Insurance Partnership?
The Insurance Partnership is a Massachusetts program that helps small business owners provide health insurance for their uninsured employees. Self-employed workers are also eligible. The Partnership pays part of the employer share of health insurance costs and also pays part of the employee monthly premiums.
Am I eligible?
To be eligible, employers must have no more than 50 employees and must pay at least 50% of their employee's health insurance costs. Employees must be uninsured and meet the Insurance Partnership income limits and other eligibility requirements.
What benefits will I get?
The Insurance Partnership pays employers a fixed amount each month for each eligible employee who buys employer-sponsored health insurance. The amount depends on the type of health insurance coverage the employee chooses (individual, family, etc.). These payments help pay the employer share of health insurance costs.
The Insurance Partnership also pays part of the employee's monthly health insurance premiums. The payment amount is based on a sliding scale that depends on the employee's income. Eligible employees with lower incomes get more assistance than those with higher incomes. The employee pays the rest of the monthly premium.
How do I apply?
Employers must fill out an Employer Application and include a copy of their wage and tax statement and health insurance bill or quote. Employees must fill out the Medical Benefits Request (MBR) form and the Insurance Partnership Supplemental Affidavit, and include pay stubs and proof of citizenship and identity. The Insurance Partnership (1-800-399-8285) will send these forms to you, or you can download them from The Insurance Partnership web site.
