Senior Care Options

For more information, see Senior Care Options on MassResources.org.

What is Senior Care Options?

Senior Care Options is a partnership between MassHealth and Medicare that provides a complete package of health care and social services for low-income seniors. Services are provided by a network of medical and other professionals, including a primary care doctor, nurses, specialists, and a geriatric support coordinator. Enrollment is voluntary.

Am I eligible?

Senior Care Options (SCO) is for seniors 65 and older who are eligible for MassHealth Standard and agree to get all of their covered health services through the SCO plan. Senior Care Options is open to people with or without Medicare. The program is for seniors in all living situations, including seniors who are living independently, living at home with support services, or living in long-term care facilities.

What benefits will I get?

When you enroll in Senior Care Options, an SCO care coordinator will keep track of your medical information and make sure you get the services you need. The SCO will provide all of the health care services that are normally covered by MassHealth Standard, including primary and specialty medical care, emergency care, medical tests, prescription drugs, hospitalization, and nursing facility care. If you have Medicare in addition to MassHealth, you will also get all of the services normally covered by Medicare. You will also get extra services from the SCO plan.

Once you join Senior Care Options, MassHealth will only cover services provided by your senior care organization and its network of providers. You can end your SCO enrollment and go back to regular MassHealth coverage at any time.

How do I apply?

For information and an enrollment form, call Senior Care Options at 1-888-885-0484 (TTY 1-888-821-5225). Hours are Monday through Friday, 9 AM to 5 PM.
