What is the Worcester Public Schools preschool program?
The Worcester Public Schools preschool program is a free half-day preschool program for 4-year old children who are residents of Worcester. The program is held at various locations throughout the city. Each classroom is staffed by a certified teacher and an instructional assistant.
Am I eligible?
To be eligible for WPS preschool, your child must:

WPS preschool programs are open to typically developing children and children with special needs.
Can noncitizens go to WPS preschool?
Noncitizens are welcome at WPS preschool. No one will ask about your immigration status. You do not need a Social Security number to apply.
What benefits will I get?

Your child will get five half days (two and a half hours per day) of preschool per week.

Your child will take part in a variety of activities that encourage personal and social development and that help prepare children for kindergarten.

Tuition is free.

Children with special needs receive free transportation. (Transportation is not available for other preschool children.)
Where are the WPS preschool programs?
Worcester Public Schools preschool programs are held at various public schools throughout Worcester.

How do I apply?
You can apply for WPS preschool beginning in January of each year. Each preschool site has a lottery in early spring. Some preschools may still have openings after the lottery date. To apply, call or visit:
After the lottery, you will be notified whether or not your child was accepted into a program. If your child is accepted for WPS preschool, you must register at the Parent Information Center. You should bring these documents with you:

copy of the acceptance letter

proof of your child's birth date

proof that your child has been immunized and tested for lead

parent/guardian's proof of Worcester residency (driver's license, lease, utility bill, etc.)
