School Meals and Summer Food Program
What are School Meals and the Summer Food Program?
School Meals are free and reduced price school meals and milk given to low-income children in Worcester schools. School Meals include School Breakfast, School Lunch, the Special Milk Program (milk for children who bring their own lunch), and After-school Snacks. During summer vacation, the Summer Food Program offers free meals for children and teens at parks, community centers, and other approved sites in Worcester.
Am I eligible?
Your child is eligible for free or reduced price school meals if your household meets the income limits. If you get food stamps or TAFDC for your child, the school meals are free. Your immigration status does not matter for this program. For the Summer Food Program, all Worcester youth age 18 and under are eligible for free summer meals.
How do I apply?
At the beginning of the school year, your child's school will send home an application for free and reduced price School Meals. You should complete the application and return it to your child’s school. If you have questions or need an application, you should call the Worcester School Nutrition Department at 508-799-3132.
You do not have to apply or register for the Summer Food Program. Children can just show up at any summer food program site. The Summer Food Service Program is run by Friendly House, the Worcester County Food Bank, and the Worcester Public Schools. For a list of summer food program sites, call the Friendly House Food Service Director at 508-755-4362, or see Summer Food Service Sites on the Meals4Kids web site.
