Search Help
You may search the WorcesterResources.org web site to find the information you want using a Basic Search or an Advanced Search:
Basic Search
The drop-down menu below the search box allows you to select the type of basic search you want to do. Your choices are:
-
Find ANY word
This search option will find all pages on the WorcesterResources.org web site that contain any of the words you enter in the search box.
Example: If you enter the words public housing and choose [Find ANY word], the search will return a list of all pages that contain the word public, and also all pages that contain the word housing. This type of search is quite general, and might include pages about public transportation, or emergency housing, as well as pages about public housing.
-
Find ALL words
This search option will only find pages on the WorcesterResources.org web site that contain all of the words you enter in the search box. [Find ALL words] is the default search option.
Example: If you enter the words public housing and choose [Find ALL words], the search will return a list of all pages that contain BOTH of these words anywhere on the page. The words do not have to appear next to each other on the page.
-
Find EXACT phrase
This search option will only find pages on the WorcesterResources.org web site that contain the EXACT phrase you enter in the search box. The words must appear next to each other on the page. This is a very specific search.
Example: If you enter the words public housing and select [Find EXACT phrase], the search will only list pages that have the exact phrase public housing within them.
Capitalization doesn't matter for any of these searches. A search on Housing will give the same results as a search on housing.
Advanced Search
You may also do more complex searches using the special search words and symbols explained below. These searches should be done with the default [Find ALL words] search option. These special search words and symbols can be used in combination for very specific searches.
-
OR
Use the word OR between two search words to find all web pages that contain either of the words.
Example: seniors OR elders will find all pages containing the word seniors, or the word elders (or both).
-
AND or +
Use the word AND or a plus sign + between two search words to find web pages that contain both words.
Example: housing AND vouchers or housing + vouchers will find all pages containing both of these words anywhere on the page.
-
NOT or -
Use the word NOT or a minus sign - immediately in front of a search word to find web pages that DO NOT include that word.
Example: housing NOT public or housing - public will find all pages that contain the word housing but DO NOT contain the word public.
-
"Double quotes"
Surround your search words in double quotes " " to search for an exact phrase. The search will only find pages containing that exact phrase.
Example: "public housing" will find all pages that contain the exact phrase public housing with the words next to each other and in the same order.
